Bygningen har gennem \u00e5rene fungeret som b\u00e5de en institution for social omsorg og en ungdomsskole, inden den i dag anvendes som et kulturcenter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I fattigg\u00e5rdens historie var det et sted, hvor d\u00e5rligt stillede og hjeml\u00f8se fra hele Svendborg-omr\u00e5det kunne s\u00f8ge tilflugt og modtage mad og husly. De forhold, som disse mennesker levede under p\u00e5 fattigg\u00e5rden, var ofte usle og umenneskelige, og mange d\u00f8de af sygdomme relateret til fattigdom og d\u00e5rlig hygiejne.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/6\/65\/Svendborg-View_towards_Forsorgsmuseet_Viebaeltegaard.JPG\/1920px-Svendborg-View_towards_Forsorgsmuseet_Viebaeltegaard.JPG\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Svendborg fattigg\u00e5rd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.dk\/maps\/place\/Danmarks+Forsorgsmuseum\/@55.0621407,10.6034345,15z\/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x464d33120597be49:0xc64ca8e1177979a1!8m2!3d55.0621407!4d10.6034345!16s%2Fg%2F12301yr7\">Danmarks Forsorgsmuseum&nbsp;\u2013 Google Maps<\/a><br>Grubbem\u00f8llevej 13, 5700 Svendborg<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Efterh\u00e5nden blev fattigg\u00e5rden dog moderniseret og istandsat, og i midten af det 20. \u00e5rhundrede blev den omdannet til en ungdomsskole, der tilb\u00f8d undervisning og fritidsaktiviteter til unge mennesker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I dag fungerer Svendborg Fattigg\u00e5rd som et kulturcenter, hvor der afholdes koncerter, teaterforestillinger og andre kulturelle arrangementer.
